Download of the Day
Happy Monday morning to you all. I was racking my brain and searching for an idea for the Download of the Day, and I came up with Bit Torrent.
What is it, you ask? According to Wikipedia:
BitTorrent is both the protocol and the name of the peer-to-peer (P2P) file distribution application created by programmer Bram Cohen that makes it possible to massively distribute files without incurring the corresponding massive consumption in server and bandwidth resources... The bittorrent protocol breaks the file(s) down into smaller fragments, typically a quarter of a megabyte (256 KB) in size. Peers download missing fragments from each other and upload those that they already have to peers that request them. That's it in a nutshell. How does it help you? You can download anything, large files, quicker and easier; sometimes it can be trackerless, meaning no one will know it's you who's downloading that Harry Potter movie. I mean, I use it to download podcasts and TV shows.
You can review a list of applications that support Bit Torrent here.
But you have to download the Bit Torrent client here first.
Once you have the Bit Torrent client on your computer, then anytime you click a Bit Torrent file, looks like ".torrent", then it will automatically start your download. You may have to configure you firewall and router to accept the file downloads, but you can look that up here.
And for those uber-geeks out there, you can try downloading TV shows with this RSS reader, TVTAD. (Wow! Bonus Download of the Day!)
